Unlocking New Horizons for DevOps with Seamless Serverless Deployments

In the realm of DevOps, the quest for efficiency and agility never ceases. Today, we are super excited to announce that Armory is simplifying the serverless deployment landscape: Armory Continuous Deployment-as-a-Service now extends its robust deployment capabilities to AWS Lambda.

The divide between different deployment targets has long been a source of complexity for DevOps teams. With the integration of AWS Lambda support into CD-as-a-Service, the gap narrows, enabling a unified deployment experience. This empowers teams to manage Kubernetes and Lambda deployments with a single, simple deployment platform that reduces cognitive overhead.

Here’s a demo!

Progressive Deployments: Canary Strategies and More

Armory’s lambda support includes progressive deployment strategies for AWS Lambda, such as canary releases. By deploying new functions in phases Armory can route only a fraction of traffic to the new version. Once deployed traffic increases iteratively. After each traffic increase teams can validate changes and ensure stability. Once satisfied you send 100% of traffic to the new version, completing the rollout. This provides a safety net that minimizes disruption and allows for automated rollbacks in case of hiccups.

Similarly, Armory can orchestrate the test-and-release process across multiple AWS Accounts. Cribl, and other customers, do this to automatically test Lambda functions in staging before deploying to their production AWS Accounts. If the tests fail, deployment is cancelled and production is not touched.

By testing in staging, and leveraging canary deployments you ensure your known tests pass, and actively monitor production workloads for unexpected conditions that your tests may not cover. Together, these decrease the blast radius of changes allowing you to safely increase your deployment velocity.

Simplification Meets Power

Deploying to AWS Lambda often requires a different set of tools and expertise than Kubernetes. CD-as-a-Service simplifies this by providing a consistent deployment workflow, regardless of the target. DevOps teams can now leverage the power of serverless computing without the need for custom scripting or siloed toolchains. Armory provides lambda users with the robust features and control they’ve come to expect from Kubernetes deployments.

The addition of AWS Lambda support is more than just a new feature. This support is a catalyst for innovation within DevOps practices. Tools with a unified approach to deployment across compute targets accelerate development cycles, reduce operational overhead, and allow teams to focus on delivering value.

Embrace the Future of Serverless Deployment

The future of cloud computing is diverse, and the ability to deploy across multiple compute targets efficiently is crucial. With Armory’s support for AWS Lambda, DevOps teams are now equipped with a powerful tool to embrace this future. Different services can benefit from different cloud technologies. Serverless and Kubernetes have very different scaling and cost profiles. Now your team can easily leverage the best target for the job on a per service basis, all with a consistent experience.

Ready to Deploy to AWS Lambda?

Getting started with AWS Lambda deployments in Armory CD-as-a-Service is straightforward. Teams define their configurations declaratively and manage their serverless deployments with the same ease and confidence they have with Kubernetes. Existing customers can check out the documentation or new application wizard to deploy their first Lambda application.
